The Neuroscience, Science and Society research group has published the book LEARNING TO SEARCH SCIENCE IN SOCIETY. DIDACTIC RESOURCES FOR TEACHERS.

The authors Angel Ezquerra, Remo Fernández-Carro, José Eduardo Vílchez and José Miguel Vílchez-González ask themselves in this book if we are aware of the quantity of scientific messages that surround us, and their quality. From this question, they develop one of the main objectives of science education: scientific literacy of the population.

From this point of view, they consider the need for good teacher training to teach citizens. But, how can we identify the science of our environment and include it in the design of didactic proposals? Can we ensure that what is worked on in the classroom makes sense to those who study it?

Learning to find science in society

This book provides answers to these questions. Given its content and structure, it is recommended for teachers, or for those who prepare competitive examinations. In it, they will find ideas for the design of educational proposals that use the science of our environment as a teaching-learning resource. They will also find guidelines to approach them through project-based learning and arguments that defend their effectiveness.

The ultimate goal is to convey to students the value of science, how to find out about the scientific issues that affect them and how to avoid the growing phenomena of misinformation.

The text is organized into six chapters in which it is examinated and pondered about science in society, the identification of the science present in the environment, the tools to analyze it, and the didactic models and strategies for the teaching-learning of science.

Educational proposal

The structure and activities of a teacher training course that has already been implemented in several universities is provided, which we have called Learning to use science present in society. Action proposal. The final chapter includes the research results obtained during its implementation.

Throughout the exposition of the content of the chapters, tasks are inserted for the reader to ponder on before continuing reading, and at the end of each chapter an annex is included with guidelines and comments on them.
